casting, casting!

well, we have our first, and hopefully only, cast at our house!  knock on wood!  while i was out of the room, my kids decided to play on the flip out bed.  ya know, the bed that comes out of a sleeper sofa....the ones with a really cool hiding spot underneath them when they are pulled out?  well, my daughter, jamie, was under the bed pushing the mattress up with her feet and my son, ben, was on top of the bed and jumped right where she was pushing up on the mattress.  he landed right where one of her legs was!  well, she would not walk on it, but could move it, so i didn't think it was broken.  this happened on saturday morning, so we decided we would just watch her over the weekend and see if she was milking it or if she was really hurt.  you know how kids are sometimes.  well, come monday morning, she still would not walk so i took her to blue ridge bone and joint.  they have an awesome walk-in clinic i found out about.  anyway, after the xrays, the doctor said he couldn't see a fracture, but there was definite swelling and fluid around her knee.  he said there could be broken cartilage that won't show up on the xray or it could be her tendons, or it could be a small fracture that they can't see.  so, to be safe, he wanted to put a cast on her that she has to wear for ten days.  i think i was in shock while they were talking about the cast....it hadn't even occurred to me that she may need a cast!  they let her pick out the color and she of course got hot pink!  it's pretty!  but, she can not put any weight on it for ten days, so i am having to carry her everywhere.  luckily she is a small almost four year old....she weighs 30lbs.  with that cast on, it feels more like 40!  but, she is taking it like a trooper!  she wasn't even scared at the doctor while they were putting it on.  this is a little girl who also doesn't shed even a tear when she gets shots.  she is one tough cookie!  so, my next ten days will be spent taking care of and snuggling with my little girl....and i have to say, i don't mind!  i plan to snuggle, watch movies, carry her back and forth to the bathroom, and maybe get some photography business stuff underway.  she also has a fever and a cough, so she is laying pretty low, which makes it a little easier to keep her resting!  she is one that is always on the go and into everything!  so, here are some pics of jamie in her hot pink cast!  hopefully the only one we will ever have.....knock on wood again!
